Re: Big Ben chimes

Well, sitting here in Wales I have not heard them for the past 40 years, so I don't think I am going to miss them for the next four. ;) The real story is it appears to be "health and safety gone mad" (previous masters of the tower cannot see (or hear :D ) what the fuss is about) and Parliament back ...

Re: Duration of transitions in multitrack view

I don't think there is a hard and fast rule regarding setting a cross fade. The question is can you hear the transition? If not then job done. The other thing is that glitches you can hear in isolation may be masked in the context of a mix, so check it in that context as well. E.g. if you can do the...

Re: "End Credits Promotions" . . . . .

Oh, I forgot. We probably need to find (on YouTube, where else?) the Jasper Carrot sketch which talks about all the wonderful technology that is Satellite TV: the uplinks, the satellite, the downlinks; he really stretches it out to the punchline "... all to watch "I Love Lucy" in black and white". :D

Re: "End Credits Promotions" . . . . .

Yes, I watched my "you can get broadband in N months" count down to zero at the start of July, following which N months then got reset to 3 months.

Re: "End Credits Promotions" . . . . .

I agree. Sky is not cheap, and I do struggle to see why I am paying the fee and having to watch adverts as well (well, if I was watching live). Thing is keeps missus and daughter happy with all the garbage they watch, and at least with Sky Q, there is rarely the argument now over too many things rec...

Re: "End Credits Promotions" . . . . .

I've got fourteen channels of shit on the TV to choose from... Pink Floyd 57 channels and nothing on..... Bruce Springsteen Nothing ever changes. What you need to do is wait for a screening of Airplane or any Abrahams Zuckerman film. If they shrink the credits, your complaint is most valid, Sir. Som...

Re: Yamaha RM50 & SY77

Good advice from Paramettric. I have a Carillon PC 16GB, 2TB storage - can't remember the processor off hand, but the largest mulitcore I could afford at the time! I run Cubase 9 for recording, which is rock solid. And I use Cantabile for live use.

Re: Yamaha RM50 & SY77

Hi, Fair enough. :) Actually, software has no "wearout mechanism". It will not get better or worse in terms of reliability. In that respect it is more reliable than hardware (which does have random failure due to MTBFs and time in operation - but I cannot remember the last time I had a computer fail...

Re: Yamaha RM50 & SY77

Tux is probably the most knowledgeable chap on the RM50 over here, so maybe he will drop in soon and give you advice on it. TBH, my opinion would be that if you have a computer in your setup, I personally would go for something like BFDII, ezDrummer or Superior Drummer. They will knock these old dru...

Re: Looking for drums

Hi, You won't get a step change in anything available for the SY77 for drums via floppy disc files, as they would be using the stock ROM samples. One step change is if you have some drum samples that you like, is to consider Sector 101's WaveBlade card , into which you could load your own drum sampl...

Re: Does anyone have an EX5 or EX7 Patches?

No problem. We needed the nudge to do it. I put kronos.factory to one side for a week to nail it, with Jim's support of course, before I go into what will be quite an intensive work period.

Re: Yamaha TG-33 send .sysex.

MID files only contain embedded SYSEX, so is there a tool out there (like your DAW) that allows you to open a MID file and save off the SYSEX?

Hi. I am not an expert (not having touched my WX5 for two years), but have you been through the calibration procedure in the manual? IIRC if the calibration is out, then you can get the effect you mention.

Re: Intro from new member with SY77

The batteries usually have a quoted five year life span, but that is quite pessimistic. My 1987 era DX7II that I purchased in 1999 only had the battery replaced in 2007 before I sold it. But yes, a replacement battery is highly recommended before you do anything serious with the SY77.

Re: Adsense on the forum

Well you could always search for rogue topics just to confuse Adsense and Saul would still make a modicum income from the bizarre things we search for.

You see the things that Amazon thinks I like just because my good lady has a Kindle linked to my account. ;)
