Re: What is your best software?(Must have)

Just got this alert from The Register:
https://www.theregister.co.uk/2017/09/1 ... downloads/

Watch out if you've just downloaded CCleaner or are about to.

Re: What is your best software?(Must have)

Interesting question, here's my take: Like others, CCleaner, Then Auslogics DiskDeFrag (used weekly), (Auslogics also has a RegDeFrag and RegClean.) AOMEI Partition Assistant, Audacity for simple audio file editing, MIDI-OX for MIDI trouble shooting, EAC (an older version) for ripping my CDs to mp3'...

Re: Laughable launch to new iPhone!

They've been playing "catch up" to Samsung now for some little while. There seems to be little innovation since Steve Jobs went to meet his maker (so to speak). Not that I'm that interested in the technology at all any more. Anyway, choosing a new tariff for my energy supply is uppermost on my mind ...

Re: Laughable launch to new iPhone!

Now you're talking, Chris. A coupla years back I thought I'd try one of the new "smart phones", what a mistake. They don't suit me at all. When the contract runs out on this heap of dung I'll ditch it and go back to my ancient Nokia 6310i. Best phone I ever had. Bought it in 2001 and used it all ove...

Laughable launch to new iPhone!

Did you see the launch of the new Apple iPhone? The amazing new way of unlocking your wonderful, £1000 (yes, a thousand) piece of status symbol, facial recognition, didn't work! Oh, ho ho ho ho HO. ROFL. Yea, you've guessed it, I'm saving up for one of those. ... Or, better still, I'll bung it on a ...

Re: Newbie help with editor

Miks,

I think that the term "propellerhead" is one of the kinder names I was given when I used to do this sort of stuff for a living. ;-)

Thanks for the link Michael, I really should have had one of those to wear when I was teaching satellite data comms.
Too late now.

Oh, well.

Re: Newbie help with editor

Indeed, USB has quite a complex hierarchical structure and protocol.

A simple(?) summary of it all can be found here:

That all takes me back awhile!

I still vividly remember this one:

and the "Beano" album in '66.

Re: Compass of Orchestral Instruments . . .

And ... just to add to the confusion, we get all the older placement of clefs for e.g. alto, tenor, etc.

Note numbers 3, 8, 9 and letters A, B, C, plus clefs with an 8 above or below.
(which are, apparently, the correct way to notate piccolo or bass respectively.)

Re: A Question about voltage, regarding US vs EU THR's...

My pleasure. I don't own either of the THR10's so I'm just going from my electrical knowledge. The PSU that you currently own would lead me to believe that the same device bought from the US would be the same. But, at the end of the day, it's just a guess. The PSU you own is "universal" as Chris pre...

Re: Compass of Orchestral Instruments . . .

Hi Chris, Indeed, and of course there are loads of other transposing instruments. Bass guitar, contrabass, contra-bassoon, various clarinets and saxophones, oboe d'amore and cor anglais, etc. For example, if the music is in C, then the oboe d'amore will have a key signature of Eb, with a middle C no...

Re: A Question about voltage, regarding US vs EU THR's...

From past experience, if I were you, I'd be very careful about importing any electrical device from the US. Especially if they had an internal power supply and use a transformer to step down from mains to DC. They run off 110 volts at a frequency of 60Hz. Europe is 220-240 volts, 50 Hz. In the past ...

Re: RE: Sony mp3 Walkman (help?)

So sorry you've had all these issues with EAC. I certainly wouldn't have recommended it if I'd known the problems with the current download. :? My version is 1.2 which, whilst not being the first, is certainly not the latest. I had none of these troubles with malware or hijacking programs at ...
