Re: Musitronics 5MB RAM Expansion - anyone?

Great to see interest. I've gotten quite busy, so not as fas along as I'd hoped. The schematic is done, and now at the stage to layout and design the circuit board. Manny P.S. If anyone has experience in PCB layout please let me know. I'm trying to teach myself when I have time, but it's going slow...

Re: Begging for ROMS

Jon, I'm more than happy to beta test the software for you to make sure the bug isn't also present in 1.57 -- probably the easiest thing before dealing with all the chips and CPU. The documented changes in 1.4 to 1.57 is for the sample numbering and proper multi disk saving -- I don't recall any sys...

Re: Musitronics 5MB RAM Expansion - anyone?

Latest news -- Things are going in a different direction now due to Musitronics being uncommunicative of their intent to actually follow through. Getting together the resources to do an all in one 8MB expansion with modern (i.e. cheap) components. It would replace the board that goes to the SYEMB05 ...

Re: Musitronics 5MB RAM Expansion - anyone?

Update for those who may not be following the "Begging for ROMS's" thread -- We have successfully sourced and burned CPU chips, and have all the resources necessary for updating the SY99 firmware to the required version 1.57 needed to run the Musitronics expansion. So, if you have an older pre-1.57 ...

Re: Begging for ROMS

So a little left turn / thread hijacking (?) Miks, Looking at the Musitronics install instructions which shows the specific pins on each IC that need to be tapped, it it possible referencing the SY99 Service manual to deduce the function of those control lines? If so, then knowing the sample memory ...

Re: Begging for ROMS

I've recently been burning a few sets of EPROMs and CPU's and decided to burn one EPROM with the Musitronics 1.57.1EX firmware to see if it would function without the actual expansion board installed. It does in fact function normally !!! (At least in my configuration, which is with all 5 SYEMB05's ...

Re: Begging for ROMS

Ilias,

I strongly recommend you get a PLCC chip removal tool:

Regular 32 pin EPROMs can safely be done with a small flat screwdriver.

Re: Begging for ROMS

Ilias, Ironically, based on very recent experience of buring my own chips, the issue with the CPU you already have may be that the pins don't seat tight enough in the CPU socket. I had a chip that I burned where everything worked except it wouldn't access the disk drive. Taking out the CPU, gently b...

Re: Begging for ROMS

Ilias, Yes, I have blank chips and can burn 1.57 CPU for you. PM me and we'll discuss how I can get it to you. Did you burn your own 1.5x EPROMS or did someone local do it for you? The same equipment & software should read the SeqROM I use a GQ-4X programmer. Google it if you'd like to get the gear ...

Re: Shortest Path to Learning AFM

Not the most timely post to this thread, but I figure it's still useful for when someone does a forum search on learning FM programming. To the requests for a 'type of musical sound' approach to FM synthesis, take a look at: https://www.yamahasynth.com/apps-2/basics-of-fm-synthesis It's a seven arti...

Re: Begging for ROMS

Does Yamaha have that file somewhere and they could post it for those that have the means to burn it? Absolutely. Are they going to? That has about the same possibility of happening as the second appearance of Christ taking place tomorrow.
Do not lose the faith, brother ! :) :)

Re: Begging for ROMS

You just never know -- they may have documented & fixed the bug, but it's possible none or few went out -- remember Yamaha only sent out the upgrades as purchased/requested and if no units from late in production shipped from the factory with it installed it could be verrrrry rare. Manny BTW -- just...

Re: Begging for ROMS

I've never seen a 1.30 Seq ROM in the wild, so as Miks suggested, maybe a typo on that website given there is no entry for release date.

Anyone on this thread/forum actually have the 1.30 Sequence ROM in their SY99?

Re: Begging for ROMS

The stuff I've been testing with I've been getting off eBay. Prices are all over the place, but if you just need one $50 (from a seemingly reliable vendor here in the states) is less than Yamaha charged. http://www.ebay.com/itm/252332575349?_trksid=p2060353.m1438.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT ...

Re: Begging for ROMS

Gentlemen, Awesome news, we have success! I received Brian's burn of Mik's CPU data to the HD6475328CP10 Chip, combined it with the EPROM data of Mik's that I burned & tested previously - and voila' - SY99 upgraded from 1.40 to 1.57 ! So as long as the CPU is socketed (PLCC84), any SY99 should be up...
