There is actually a dislike button on most social sharing platforms and I could activate it here.
News to me. I can only see these (FB)

As far as the various buttons you may wish to put on the Forum, Saul, I am fine with whatever you decide.

You know FAR MORE about how these things work than most of us - and it is obvously in ALL OUR INTERESTS that the Forum survives and continues as best it can.

Having said that - I don't know that I'm particularly comfortable with the notion of the forum "living" WITHIN something as "vanilla" as FaceBook. Seems it would open it up to comment/participation by those who have no knowledge or interest in what we do . . . . clicking like or dislike randomly without thought, simply because "they can" . . .

I guess, we'll see . . . ?

You hover your mouse "over" the like in Facebook and that gives you the options.

Over at Gearslutz they also have a like and share button and just checking their stats I can see it has done them no harm at all.

Ideally I would prefer it if the "like" simply notified the person concerned rather than posted any sort of info to the forum so I may look into that as a possibility.

Having held back a little to observe, I think that Michael, aka SeaGtGruff, makes a very valid point.
It makes it very easy to say a "thank you" doesn't it?

Hope you had a good holiday, Chris?

Thanks John :)

I removed all the visible indications of who had been thanked etc so now the only notification should be an email to the person thanked. I think this is a good compromise and anyway most people probably won't even notice the button is there. It doesn't exactly stand out.

Is the "Thanks" button gone? I like the idea, because it keeps the forum clean. I think one or two word threads break the flow of a thread. Again, best judgement, because sometimes a thank you requires more behind it. Just my observation!

The thanks button is still there, should be in the top right of the post but will only appear if you have not already thanked that person in the same thread.

I don't see it in this thread, either-- just the exclamation (report this post) and quote buttons. It's still visible in other threads, and I don't recall using it in this thread (or in any other threads yet), so I wonder if it's got something to do with the subforum? When this thread first appeared I was unable to post a reply in it, as though non-moderator and non-admin members didn't have permission to reply to it (no reply box, no reply buttons, etc.). But after a week or so the ability to reply was there. So maybe threads in the "Site News" or "Site Notifications & Changes" have different permissions than other subforums, and that's connected to why there's no "Thanks" button in this thread?

I think that may be the reason Michael but Peter should be able to see the button. I will check the back end but I don't think there are many adjustments to the extension.

No "thanks" button in this topic, but it's present in other topics.

I checked all the permissions and can't see anything that might be causing it. I guess it's just one of those things, perhaps as Michael said that the topic was initially started in a locked area that people could not reply to.
