Yamaha Montage 7 + Korg Kronos 2 Jamming

Unread post by Saul » Wed May 24, 2017 5:14 pm

Interesting jam of two great keyboards, both sounding excellent. Only slight problems is we are looking at around 6 grands worth of keyboards here! That equates to one fantastic controller, a shed load of sounds and plenty of change left over for a decent holiday!

What do you think, one sounds better than the other? Which one would you buy right now if you were making that decision today? Which represents the better value for money? Which one has the longevity to make the price worth it?

By the way let's keep in mind that although both these keyboards are expensive, so was the SY77 and SY99 when they came out. If I am correct I think the SY99 was over 3 grand? Sometimes it's easy to forget that flagship keyboards have ALWAYS been expensive.

An SY99 was $4,000 in 1993, which is about $6,700 today, or about £5,200. So the Montage or a Kronos is a bargain compared to the SY.

I saw this video a few days back. Not bad. Whilst both sound good, the EPs on the Kronos sounded better to my ears (well they are not static samples). I hate the Kronos in silver, mind, it looks much better in black!

No wonder most of us didn't have the SY77/99 when they first came out!

I agree with both points about Kronos. It definitely looks better in black and to my ears at least it sounded better but, probably fairer if they were in isolation because both are being played at the same time in this video.
