And as mentioned numerous times, head over to www.marce-music.com for MarcE's excellent sounds sets for the EX5. They will keep you going for a while...

Hi,

totally agree with Derek in that the Marce patches are top-notch (i have his banks filling up both my internal banks.

As for the other question: Myself (as i guess many others too) have the complete (?) Ampfea library available to put somewhere. Afaik, yes, they have author restrictions imposed on them, and they are very often part of a readme or pdf inside each bank-set. Would it not be sufficient just having those author notes intact and upload them? Or even filter out everything that does not say that spreading the patches is alright as long as the disclaimer is not removed?

I think the thing is we need specific approval from the authors before uploading anything here in the EX5 downloads section.

IF the author has sanctioned the sharing of sounds and more specifically the distribution through forums and other media then that is ok but I would still feel happier contacting the author for direct permission before going ahead. I will leave that decision to Derek and Jim though as they are more up to date on the EX5 scene than I am. If you get the "ok" from those guys then it's fine to upload :)

Well after some plotting with an old friend over a very good curry (the Anupam in Malvern was on fine form), here's the deal.
  • We still live in the hope that EX5Tech will come back some day when Ski is ready, albeit we think that that hope is quite small. Having said that we cannot rule it out, and we do not want to put an old friend's nose out of joint.
  • We need to consider the files which can only be hosted on EX5Tech due to distribution restrictions, if we make them available it is best to do that on an EX5Tech domain (which can be used to point to EX5Tech.com if it comes back)
  • So we are going to host an EX5Tech download site until such a time that the full site comes back. If that happens then the download site has served its purpose
  • We are currently going through the files we have, to either weed out the ones where copyright prohibits distribution on another site, and/or they are dodgy content that probably should never have been posted on the original site (e.g. AMPFEA had little policing of content)
  • We will acknowledge that copyright (either expressed or implied) remains with the originators, and provide a contact point if anybody does not want their content on the site.
  • All files will be uploaded in their original zipped form, including credits/copyright notices where they exist.
  • We will point to YamahaMusicians as a place where people can ask all things EX5 (and others of course)
  • We will link to Wayback Machine for the EX5Tech archive until such a time that it comes back in another guise.
  • Where sites are already hosting collections (e.g. www.marce-music.com) we will link to the site/files rather than host them.
Jim and I think this is the best approach to keep everything consolidated and as a placeholder for EX5Tech. Hopefully one day it will be back.

So bear with us for a few more weeks in our busy lives whilst we do the file sorting and website prep to ensure that we are not posting anything that we should not.

So that's the plan......

Sounds like a great idea Derek. Keeping the files under the EX5tech domain makes a lot more sense. If for any reason the forum doesn't make it back online then at least people can discuss here and download there :)

Sounds like a tidy arrangement to me.

Permissions ALREADY granted to host on EX5Tech are maintained, and nobody is getting their corns stood on . . .

It also provides breathing space for the original Forum to come back if it can . . . .whilst the Downloads are not LOST . . . .

No problem. We needed the nudge to do it. I put kronos.factory to one side for a week to nail it, with Jim's support of course, before I go into what will be quite an intensive work period.

Thanks, do keep checking back as well as EX5Tech UK will continue to grow for a while. There are still a number of patches and documents awaiting vetting and uploading pending permissions and we will keep going until all available legacy EX material we know of and can access is on the site.

Just for the avoidance of doubt, we are happy to post any newly produced material brought to our notice on EX5Tech UK but are equally happy if it is posted in the download area here. Either way, EX owners have an opportunity to benefit. What would be counter-productive would be to post to both sites and try to keep some kind of synchronisation between them and we will work to avoid that.
