Don't want to see certain posts? Use the Friends/Foe function

Unread post by Saul »

Given recent events I thought it would be useful to remind out members that there is a way to avoid seeing posts/topics they would rather not see when coming to the forum.

If you click on a members name it will take you to their profile page. In the centre near the top you will see the following :
friend-foe.png
friend-foe.png (19.33 KiB) Viewed 5694 times
If you do not wish to see their posts, click on 'Add foe' and you will no longer see what they post to the forum.

Hope that will be of use to some of you.

Must admit it is not something I have ever used myself. The function is built into most forums so I guess it must be in demand.

Marking as "Foe" is not absolute . . . .

When the Foe responds to a post, you will now see an entry reminding you that the poster is on your Foe list - and you can click to reveal the

post for that instance - or not . . .

Once you have revealed the post, refreshing the view will revert the post to hidden . . . So you have complete control (Y)

Well, it's possible to leave out a members posts by using the FOE gizmo,
but I really wish for a button that leaves out whole topics from the list.

This way, you enter the forum greeted only by topics of interest.

Well, there must be a market for that, Buzzard.

Time to start coding.

Only one major problem I foresee, how to get the input from the brain "now, what don't I want to see today?" "Guitars or politics!"
And that's presupposing you've written a utility that analyses people's posts and marks them as guitars or synths or whathaveyou. ;-)

Cheers John.

Naaah, sorry, I don't have a clue how to program such a gadget that sorts out topics. but I like the idea.

It's NOT a matter of eliminating topics about instruments, I often enjoy a good read about synths, but being novice here, I rarely join the debate.

Hey, Peter, it's never too late to learn you know.

A few months back I started learning about sfz and xml code. (It's the stuff whereof some virtual instruments are made.)

It's allowed me to work out, and modify the User Interface of ARIA (Garritan sample player made by Plogue) and add some further MIDI controls to some sampled wind instruments. (Shh! Don't tell anybody, but I turned seventy last year.)

Regards,
John.

TBH, I think a foe function is only useful on forums where you need it due to the trollers who live on them (and I don't go to those). I don't think we have ever had anybody on those forum in the nearly ten years I have been on it (I got my SY77 at the tail end of 2007! 8O ) who deserves to be tagged as a foe.

You are indeed a Dark Horse of the most interesting kind, John . . . .

Well - we've worked out the DNA double-helix code, so perhaps its time to work out the HUMAN Midi Data Format . . ?

A quick cranial implant of a midi-OUT behind the left ear - and perhaps we can FINALLY get these instruments doing what we want?

Or perhaps that should be a device-compliant usb port?

Now THERE's something to showcase Midi v2.0 8) . . . and you're the man I think ((i))

Nah!

MIDI and USB and so many other transmission formats are so 'old hat!' :|
Most of my internal communication is done in ISDN 'D' channel primary rate protocol these days. 8)
(See international standard LAPD, Q.921 & Q.931.)

What I had implanted some moons ago (I had to go to Betelgeuse, I couldn't get a Sol version) was an implementation of Frame Relay/ATM (Asynchronous Transfer Mode) capable of handling both voice and data (multi-protocol) at a high transmission rate (1 Gbps) over fibre. That should do for the rest of my days I think. (Check Wiki or the DocWiki at Cisco for more.)

It would be 'the thing' for all synths and other instruments for the next decade of two.
Might be a tad expensive to implement tho'!

The MIDI stuff is encapsulated within X.25 packets.
