Your guitar link in your signature

Unread post by Buzzard » Fri Apr 21, 2017 6:46 pm

When I browse for guitars, I have a pretty good idea (and some memory) of members owning several cool guitars.

Only problem is finding the older topics containing the uploaded collections.

Since we have lot of active contributing members, it's often hard to find the topics containing "My Guitars" posted by other members.

I have added a link in my signature giving direct access to my Yamaha guitar collection:  http://www.yamahaforums.co.uk/forum/vie ... =24&t=7004
making it easy for anyone to find and ask/advice/discuss any of my twangers.

 We could also start a topic giving links to ONLY our guitar, amp and gear collections  :?:

Regards
Peter

Very good suggestion Peter!

A couple of times recently, I wanted to "dangle the carrot" so to speak, to a prospective "member", but had to jump through hoops to find your

(amazing) lounge-wall display pics . . . .

Perhaps a Guitar sub-forum simply called <Collections> - but locked - to keep things from getting out of hand?

So, in effect - a Picture Gallery . . . . ?

A picture gallery possibly including specs is a brilliant idea. ((i))

At the moment a lot of members have at one time or another shown all or parts of their collection,
and finding these topics/posts can be a long search, so anyone willing to post a link in their signature,
giving direct access to their guitar pictures will ease the search SO MUCH.

We used to have a gallery way back in the distant past. What many members don't realise is what they are seeing now is actually the third version of Yamaha Forums. We were hacked way back in the early days, I think around 2002 and then again about a year later and eventually it was decided to start from scratch.

I think we were using 'Coppermine' photo gallery back then and it became a big target for hackers. I'm not sure how it stands today but my gut instinct is not to go down that route again.

I would quite easily add a photo gallery to the front end of the site...the WordPress bit. That would work. Just link from people's signatures to the gallery and then have a direct link back to the forum?

You lost me there Saul .....I don't have a clue about the different forum systems and programming.

What I am hoping for, is members linking directly to their own MAIN guitar topics, making it easy to look and search .....
(would work well for the synth fans too)

Members like Jeff have a fantastic collection, but finding it, is somewhat difficult. but, here it is: http://www.yamahaforums.co.uk/forum/vie ... it=aes+800

Fortunately Chris "theSGgeek" has arrived well, and his work is growing nicely, glad to have him aboard. ((i))

We also have members with some stunning external guitar pages, here thinking about Bill , TheSupposedStringMeister and frelonvert among others.

 Clicking on my signature link and finding a guitar you want more info about, I'm likely to be able to help since I have some experience with those shown.

Well there IS in fact a front end to Yamaha Forums which oddly enough you can get to by just going to http://yamahaforums.co.uk however most people who are on the forum don't ever see it because they come through a google link direct too the forum. There are of course people who land here through the front end and also that is where most of the news is posted and shared via social media. It's also the easiest place to add a gallery because there are plenty of plugins for it.

Having said that, perhaps all we need on the forum is a "My Collection" section so those who have accumulated several guitars can list them and post photos etc and then simply link to that in their forum signature?

I use the JAlbum program with my Website to provide the <Photo Gallery>. Seems to work well, lives as a Folder in my domain separate to the WP Folder, but is simply called from

the <Photo Gallery> tab on the Website. http://chrisnmiller.co.uk/ [Gallery Background Music is Mine BTW, A Sax Solo - 100% Alesis Fusion]

Now has over 1000 photos and about 4 videos . . . Member have their own named Folders - so other members can find them easily . .

Descriptions are possible for each photo . . .

I eventually paid for it - and left it at the highest version. The higher versions require another payment, but the one I have does all I need
