Here's an example of the system not being quite perfect yet:

Serial number on my Yamaha SLG-100S BL silent guitar: HQJ207739

Here's the result:

Guitar Info
Your guitar was made in
Taiwan
on March 20th, 2010
Production Number: 7739

Almost all the data is correct, EXCEPT , the guitar is made in Indonesia , as stated on the guitars label and instruction manual.

Still, the update is welcome, and more of my guitars have found their date of manufacture. (Y)

Regards
Peter

Yeah, if it came up with 1978 , that would sound better. :?

The particular LP was only made from 84 for a year or so What seems to have happened is the dater took the first number 8 of the serial number which looks like a type of serial number only used in the 90s so my advice to anyone using the dater is only trust it if you have other evidence that the model is in the right date range. I have on my website a list of serial numbers found on LP and SLs I might run them through the dater and post the results on my web site when I get a bit of time.

Now done that see results on my Lord Player Studio Lords page, mainly unrecognised and except for the one I previously mentioned generally logical. What's weird is that serial numbers which fit into the SG range so should be recognised are not.

Yeah, still not perfect, but it covers about 2/3 of my guitars, and hopefully, it gets better.
