Need help identifying Pacifica model

Unread post by AChord » Sat Oct 29, 2016 6:50 pm

Hi everybody
I have bought a used Pacifica guitar, but the owner didn't know the model number
She said it was about 10-15 years old. The serial number starts with MNO so it should be produced in 96 or 06
According to the pictures I have found on Google, I don't think it's a 012 based on the tuners
Could it be a 112? It is made in Taiwan
Thanks in advance
Kind regards Niels

Hej AChord , Velkommen til Yamaha Forums. :D

Usually there's a sticker on the back of the tuning head identifying the model.

Doesn't seem to be one on yours :? but I lean towards it being a 012 even though some 112 models have the same scratchplate.

Anyway, once it's set up to your requirements, this reasonably priced guitar is still a great player, I used to have one of each.

Best Regards
Peter

Thank you, Peter :D
My own theory about it not being a 012,is based upon the shape of the tuners. On the pictures I have seen, the 012 tuners have a kind of pointy cover on the back.
However I am rather new to the world of Guitars, so I'm not sure at all
Can Yamaha identify it by the serial number and country of origin?
Kind regards Niels

Are there not any markings under the pickups which would give a clue to which model it is?

Yeah, you're probably thinking about these 012 tuners :!: :?:

Most 112 models had a smaller pickguard that didn't include the bridge pickup ........ but not all of them.

Thank you for that Peter. I will try that if I don't succeed otherwise. It is exactly those tuners I have seen pictures of

Thank you for your bid, Saul
I have tried to unscrew the pickguard and lift it without removing the strings, but I couldn't see any numbers.
Where must I look, and what am I gonna disassemble to see the numbers at the pickups?

Well there is no guarantee there will be any numbers but they are often stamped within the pickup cavity itself.

Hi again Peter
Do you have contact info for Lars from Yamaha?
I would rather not have to disassemble the guitar, so it would be nice if he could help me
Thanks in advance

If you can't get hold of Lars I can try the guys at Yamaha UK but their guitar division has never been that quick at getting back to me, unlike the pro audio division who tend to reply almost straight away.

I have now received the answer from Yamaha support. Unfortunately they have not been able to determine model using pictures and serial number.
They could inform me that the guitar is manufactured in 1996 though.
Any good ideas?
Thank you in advance
Kind regards Niels :)

Yamaha Pacifica 112 J BL electric guitar black

https://www.bax-shop.co.uk/electric-gui ... itar-black

https://www.yamahamusiclondon.com/Pacif ... 112J-SUPER

Yours could be an 012 hybrid with a different neck mounted, but the 112J is a reasonable match.
