Unwanted EX5R

Unread post by chris_ex5r »

Hi all,

I have recently obtained an EX5R that I have absolutely no use for (not the one above from Germany!).

I know nothing about it at all - all I do know is that it turns on and looks in good condition.

I'm going to put it up for auction, but before I do that - is there some kind of diagnostics disk I can run through it to make sure everything is working?

Also, what would you say is a fair asking price as is?

Many thanks

Chris.

Hi,

Pressing VOICE and the numeric 9 and 6 keys together (press VOICE first and then the other two together whilst still holding the VOICE key) will get you into a diagnostic mode where you can run different tests, but why not plug the EX5R in to a MIDI keyboard and use headphones or audio outputs to check the sound?

In terms of pricing, there are different views on this forum, but I use PREPAL as a guide and I have found it to be usually in the right ball park, and it is currently tracking $571 or about £440 for an EX5R.

It depends on how you want to price it to sell of course. Do you want to get rid of it quickly or are you prepared to wait? Also does it have any extras like FLASH and SCSI as those extras will affect value.

EX5Rs do not come up often, so you may wish to take that into account as well.

I paid around £450 for mine a few years back, when I sold my two EX5 boards, but I wanted to keep the EX5 sound in my studio (so a rack made sense) and whilst it had no extras it was in very good condition, and I had been waiting a year for one to come up.

There are a few EX5Rs on eBay now for silly money (one for £750 - allegedly with an The ORB heritage - and another for over £1,000!!), so I would say try going with £450 as a start price if you are not in a rush

Hi Derek,

Apologies for my late reply - I have a memory like a goldfish and forgot where I posted this!

Thanks greatly for your detailed reply - it was a big help, and I confirmed everything definitely worked before sale (even the FDD!)

The crazy priced one with The Orb heritage was the one I had for sale (a friend of mine used to be editor of a poetry magazine that one of the group occasionally contributed to - which is how I eventually came across it)

Really happy with the final sale price, not so much the eBay / Paypal fee's of nearly £100! :violin:

It went to a guy in Spain who owns a music shop and doesn't like The Orb - but really wanted an EX5R! (bizarrely as soon as mine sold, another one popped up on eBay in Madrid for a similar price)

Anywhoo, i'm starting to ramble now - thanks again for help, much appreciated. (Y)
