SY22 Memory cards

Unread post by SiriusHardware » Sat Jan 21, 2012 4:19 pm

SY22 memory cards - did anyone ever buy one? Are they still made, either by Yamaha or by enterprising third parties?

At the moment I back up all edited voices by bulk dumping everything to my old Atari ST - I know I could use something like MIDIOX on a PC these days, but I just stick with what I'm used to.

It would, however, be nice to be able to back data up to a card so I don't have to fumble around for the ST if I leave the SY22 off for too long and it forgets everything, as has occasionally happened.

Hi there Sirius . . .

I've had a quick look at the SY22 Manual, and it seems it uses the MCD32 or MCD64 cards.

These have been discontinued years ago, but occasionally appear on eBay and prices vary greatly due to their scarceity . . . .

If you can obtain either type - then a visit to forum member Brian's site here http://www.sector101.fsnet.co.uk/mcd_sweet16.html would be to your advantage.

The Sweet16 mod he does gives you effectively 16 MCD64 cards in one and should satisfy your needs for the best part of some time . . . . :D

I have one of these for my SY85 and they are excellent.

Best Regards

Hi, just keep checking on ebay is all I can say. I recently picked up a MCD32 with a semi butchered TG33 for $70AU.

Hi I recently purchased a MCD64 memory card on ebay and i keep getting the No format error. How do i reformat the card? There's nothing in the SY22's manual as far as i can see, I'm trying to get the guy i purchased it to help but if i can do it that's just as good.

Hi Kriz176,

how about the battery? There's a coin cell in those cards which can be replaced, should the need arise. It is stored in a little compartment on the back of the card, secured by a little screw. This coin cell (CR2025) should read 3 volt (use multimeter), if lower than, lets say, 2.5 volt it should be replaced. IIrc the card wouldn't format if battery's too low... 8O

Hope it helps...

best, Miks

Good info there Miks! People often don't realize that the MCD32/64 had batteries, I had issues with three MCD64s that came with the SY99 I bought and a battery change took care of the issues. The first MCD64 that I got with my SY77 in '89/'90 didn't need a battery change until about five years ago.
