fs.factory 2.1

Unread post by Derek » Tue Nov 24, 2009 9:06 pm

I'm pleased to announce the second release of fs.factory, the x.factory librarian for the FS1R.

This new version adds Library support, which allows you to keep all of your favourite items (Voices and Performances) in one Library database, and then sort and filter them to find the patch that you want.

fs.factory can be found over at http://www.xfactory-librarians.co.uk

Other new features
  • fs.factory can now read MIDI (.MID) files with embedded FS1R SYSEX data and create a SYSEX data file from the MID file.
  • You can create a performance bank to match a voice bank in a file.
  • Improved DX7 import to correct bug with the creation of performances from DX7II performances, and performances are now automatically created if the file being imported (DX7 or DX7II) doesn't have any defined.

Nice one Derek! Never had an FS1r myself but nice to know if I did ever pick one up that there are enthusiasts like you out there who produce software to keep these older synths going strong :)

Thanks. The FS1R is a great FM implementation that I've still to explore properly. They're pretty rare on the second hand market now as people (myself included) tend to hang on to them as they were only on the market for a year or so and then withdrawn because the FS1R was a failure for Yamaha in marketing terms as another example of a synth that was too deep for the masses (and with not a sample in sight).

Not many downloads are available for the FS1R, but with the batch importer in fs.factory you have access to around 2,000 odd 32 voice DX7 patch files in the convenience of a rack. :)

How does one remove a trial version of fs.factory once installed (Windows)?

That good, huh? ;)

There is meant to be an uninstaller in the fs.factory program group, so try that first. It doesn't work for all people (never understood why), so the steps to manually remove are given below

To remove the program, delete the fs.factory folder created in your program files directory.

And then delete the program group from your start menu

If you wish to remove any fs.factory program configuration data then under your User data directory there will be a folder called xfactory.librarians/fs.factory which can be deleted if you wish to remove all traces.

No registry settings are created (Hurray!)
