Replacing sticky keys - new spring or key?

Unread post by ThisWreckage »

My CLP130 occasionally develops sticky keys which are slow to return to their position. I've been replacing the key with a new one. However, I've noticed that the supplier also sells replacement springs which are much cheaper. Has anyone fixed a sticky key with a new spring? Any other advice on this recurring problem would be appreciated.

How did you do on your Clavinova sticky keys. I'm in a Michigan working on a Clav CXP-30 with many sticking keys. -Thanks, Mike

I believe the Clavinovas sometimes have a felt? strip that runs under the keybed - possibly to try and quieten the action . . .

I have heard that this strip may become sticky in places and start to retain keys when they are pressed . . . .

I think that replacement felts are available from Yamaha . . .

Maybe worth a look when you have it open?

I never considered the felt strip might be to blame. Next time it recurs, I'll test it.
