hs7 monitor tweeter just catches fire

Unread post by Agzer »

Hi,

While switched on but in rest, not under load, one of my HS7 tweeters popped loudly and subsequently caught fire.

I made a video right after it started. a screenshot is attached

Guess i'll bring it back to the store. I bought them 31 July

It would be interesting to find out what caused this. Probably the amp failed and delivered a massive DC offset to the tweeter.

It appears the woofer and tweeter use separate amplifiers.

Not seen this before but it should not happen under any circumstances! There should be something in place to prevent that.

Suppose it had happened when you were not present and it had caught fire?

Take it back to the store and buy something else. Plenty of other options out there.

I suspect this was just a faulty unit eventhough it worked well for about 6 weeks. It’s back at the store now and hopefully will be replaced under warranty.

As for buying different monitors, I actually like the sound of these. Its a nice and not too expensive set with the hs8 sub. My mixing needs are not that critical anyways.

cheers,
A

I had the HS7's for a few months. They were ok but eventually, I moved to KRK and they were better for me.

If you only had the speakers a few weeks they would definitely be repaired under warranty although I would expect them to be replaced not repaired.

Make sure you find out why this happened though.
