HUGE pipe organ ...

Unread post by shelly0624 »

I found this interesting YouTube video of an immense pipe organ in Chicago. It's like a keyboard on steroids. The actual construction of this colossal instrument is amazing. The narrow walkways that lead UP and around the pipes would give anybody the worst vertigo. 8O I would hate to be the repair guy. The Gothic revival style architecture of the church is pretty cool too. The Fourth Presbyterian Church of Chicago was built in 1914.

In this video, after a midi stop was discovered on the pipe organ, and after MANY attempts, he was able to connect the gigantic organ to his computer and play one of his songs. I would skip to about the 6:29 mark or so. The rest of the beginning was a bit of floundering while they figured out how they were going to do it.

You still can't beat the power of a pipe organ. but you really need to be in the same space to feel its awesomeness.

Best one I ever heard was in Ypres in Belgium. Me and a business colleague were on a business trip, had some time to kill, and were walking around and saw a lovely church in the town centre. We walked in, to take a look, just as the organist was starting, and it blew our socks off.
