I have a fairly new MODX8 that has suddenly stopped making sound. Have any of you experienced this and can you provide a remedy? Thanks

Hi Potembski, welcome to the forums :)

I assume there is no sound from the headphone output too?

It could be that the "local off" setting is active. This turns off the internal sound and effectively makes the MODX into a controller keyboard.

[UTILITY]  [Settings]  [MIDI I/O]  “Local Control”

Check that first and let me know?

I was able to bring the sound back following directions for a factory reset I found on different site.

The path was: Utility>Settings>System>Initialize All Data>

Since I hadn't saved anything yet (still learning), I didn't have to be concerned with backing up data.

Thanks for your help!

Thanks for the update. I would not have gone down the road of a factory reset except as a last resort. It helps to find out why there was suddenly no sound. Is it a setting, is it hardware or software? It helps when you can understand the causes. :)

Hi,

Glad you got it sorted, but it was an extreme method that could have caused data loss (if you had edited user performances without saving)

If a factory reset cured loss of volume, it most likely was MIDI LOCAL OFF having been inadvertently activated. Next time that happens, try playing via MIDI via another keyboard or sequencer to see if it makes a sound.
